Words that Inspire
The Woman's Christian Temperance Union hosts oratorical competitions for college students to focus on researching the dangers of various substances to present to others, in hopes of discouraging the use of these substances. My 10-minute, memorized, fictional speech focused on the dangers of alcohol, told from the perspective of a child growing up in a family with an alcoholic parent. I presented this speech at the State competition in Harrisburg, PA in April 2018, before competing in the National competition in Los Angeles, CA later in July. Although I took first place in both competitions, I am most proud of the impact that this story had, as it addresses a topic that is so prominent in today's society.
